At least one person is dead and over 40 others are injured following a rollover bus crash in New York state on Thursday, authorities said.
The bus was carrying students from Farmingdale High School in Nassau County who were on their way to a music event for band camp in Greeley, Pennsylvania, when it crashed on Interstate 84 in Wawayanda in Orange County around 1:20 p.m. local time, according toABC affiliate WABCandCNN.
One adult was killed as a result of the crash, New York State Police said, perNBC affiliate WNBC.
There were “multiple serious injuries” sustained in the crash,the NYSPsaid in a news release.
Of the 46 people injured, a majority of them were young people, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus said, WNBC reported. Five young people were transported to local hospitals in critical condition, he added.
The bus involved in Thursday’s crash was one of six buses transporting the band members to Pennsylvania, according to WNBC. It is unclear what caused the crash.

All after-school activities at Farmingdale High School were canceled Thursday following the crash, WNBC reported.
The westbound side of I-84 was closed at exit 15A while authorities investigated the incident, according to a news release from theNYSP.
A reunification center has been set up at the Diana Physical Education Building at Orange County Community College on East Conklin Avenue in Middletown, N.Y., WNBC reported.
A press briefing about the incident isscheduled for 6 p.m.local time, according to the NYSP.
