1 Student Dead, 2 Injured in Shooting at Louisiana High School: 'A Senseless Tragedy'

A student was killed and two others were injured a school shooting in Greensburg, Louisiana, on Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

“A tragic incident occurred on the campus,” the St. Helena College and Career Academy said in astatement on Facebook.

“The scene is still active and we are working closely with authorities at this time,” they added. “An official statement from the school district is forthcoming regarding details that can be shared with the community.”

A student with multiple gunshot wounds walked into the Parish Hospital at about 3:30 p.m., sources toldWBRZ. The victim informed staff he had been shot at the school and there were more victims, per the outlet.

One of the two injured students was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition,ABC Newsreports.

The names of the deceased and suspect are not being revealed because they are underage and there is no clear motive for the crime yet, according to the sheriff’s department release.

According to the Sheriff Nat Williams, the suspect is a 14-year-old student who attends the school, per WBRZ.

Classes have been canceled until Friday, along with the football game and school-board meeting, the St. Helena Parish School District said in their statement. Grief counselors will be available for students when they return to school on Friday, per the statement.

The case is still under investigation.

The sheriff and St. Helena Parish School District Superintendent Kelli Joseph did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment Wednesday.
