12-Year-Old Boy Who Ran Away from Home Found Safe After Spending the Night in Ohio Target

A missing 12-year-old boy was found inside a Target store in Ohio on Monday morning, according to police.

Police said that the boy had spent the night alone in the store after running away from home, per the outlets.

It remains unclear how the boy managed to slip into the store and go undetected overnight before the store’s opening Monday.

The Columbus Police Department did not immediately responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Police said the 12-year-old’s parents had filed a missing persons report on Sunday night, perCBS affiliate WBNSandThe Columbus Dispatch.Once found, he was taken to Franklin County Children’s Services, where his parents were able to pick him up.

“The child’s parents are happy that he is safe,” Jennifer Watson, a police spokesperson, said in a statement, per the paper.NBC Newsreported the family was reunited with him on Monday afternoon.

There were no reports that the boy was injured, and police do not anticipate filing charges against his parents, WBNS andThe Columbus Disptachreported.
