Kavion, who loved basketball, dance and art, asked to go to the soccer game at the park, according to the station. The mom agreed because she was told he was going with his basketball team and their coach.

Alena Godfrey, Kavion’s great-aunt, watched over the river amid Sunday’s search after the boy’s grandmother had asked her to in case authorities found his body, per the Daily News.

“We need to know what happened,” Alena told the newspaper. “My sister is not going to let this go. She said she needs to know what happened to her grandson.”

Kavion — the eldest of four brothers — just started high school and loved his family, Alena told the paper. “He’s a quiet child,” she said, adding that the family did “everything” together.

“We watched the scuba divers and everything,” Alena said at the start of her vigil on Saturday, per theDaily News. “We kept watching and then when the sun was going down, you know, it’s not too much that they can do. We went home. I got up this morning. I did the same thing.”

“They need to go into social media, into these schools, and find out what kids was with him,” the great-aunt added. However, foul play is not suspected, police told thePost.

AGoFundMeestablished for Kavion said the teen was “full of spirit” and had “touched so many,” adding “to know him for even a second was to know genuine kindness.”
