A 16-year-old boy is now the fifth student from an Atlanta-area high school to die in a car crash this school year.
The latest crash occurred early Tuesday morning near Northcrest and Chamblee-Tucker Roads, a spokesperson from the DeKalb County Police Department tells PEOPLE.
Officers responded to the single-vehicle crash around 1:40 a.m. local time and, upon arrival, found the 16-year-old driver dead at the scene, according to the spokesperson.
Aguas-Bahena “was with his brother and a friend” at the time of the crash, according to Arasely Toro, who organized aGoFundMe campaignfor the victim’s family.
Two passengers who were in the car during Tuesday’s crash “were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” the DKPD spokesperson said.
One passenger, Aguas-Bahena’s brother, was in the intensive care unit “because of the injuries he received,” Toro added in the GoFundMe’s description.
The third person, a friend, escaped the crash “with scratches and bruises,” she added.
Aguas-Bahena is now the fifth student from Lakeside High School to die from a crash during the 2023-24 academic year.

Counseling has been made available at the school in the wake of the latest crash, per the reports.
Dr. Susan M. Stoddard, principal of Lakeside High School, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
