Two women survived after theirsmall plane crashedinto a tree in a wooded area behind a Georgia neighborhood late Tuesday night, police said.
The Clayton County Police Departmentsaid in a news release shared on Facebookthat officers were dispatched around 11:55 p.m., local time, to respond to a plane in distress.
“Officers were advised that the private plane was running out of gas,” police added. “After over an hour search, officers located the private plane in the 300 block of Tara Beech Lane, Hampton, GA.”
The two victims managed to escape the plane and were found on the forest floor, according to the department.
Both victims were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Clayton County Police Department. Their identities have not been released at this time.
Police told PEOPLE that there are no additional updates at this time and that “the investigation has been turned over to the FAA.”
