Rapidly-Spreading Wildfire In California’s Butte County Prompts Evacuations

On Nov. 8 the worst wildfire in U.S. history swept through the Northern California town of Paradise in a matter of hours, forcing a mass evacuation and decimating nearly 14,000 homes. As of press time 88 people were confirmed dead from the blazes and nearly 25 were still missing.

The park’s newest addition — one of the rarest subspecies of giraffes in the world — was 6-ft. tall at birth and weighed 110 lbs. The not-so-little one was named Gerald.
