Stevenson, of Queensbury, worked at the hospital as a cardiac catheterization nurse, hospital spokesman Ray Agnew confirms to PEOPLE.
“The Glens Falls Hospital Community is heartbroken at the loss of one of our nursing staff, cardiac catheterization nurse Kristen Stevenson,” Agnew says. “Kristen was 33 years old and had worked at the hospital since May of 2011.”
“Our hearts and prayers go out to her family, friends and colleagues,” Agnew adds. “She was a light and will be dearly missed.”
According to police, the fatal incident unfolded just after 5 p.m.
First responders rushed to the scene and provided first aid to Stevenson, but it was sadly too late as she “ultimately succumbed to her injuries,” police said.
Stevenson leaves behind her 13-year-old son, her sister Heather Richardson — who is also a nurse in the Wound Healing Center at Glens Falls Hospital — her father, aunt, significant other, and her son’s father, according to Agnew.
